Ready to escape the excitement of the City of Da Nang? Check out the Lady Buddha for some peaceful relaxation.
Along the coastline near Da Nang, on the Son Tra Peninsula, is one of Southeast Asia’s largest Buddha figures, known as the Lady Buddha. Measuring 67 meters tall (220 feet), she’s visible from the city, all the way across the bay.
The expansive grounds around the Lady Buddha feature magnificent gardens, interesting pagodas and temples, many sculptures, and monkeys! It also featured benches and shade in the hot sun, offering a respite to relax and slow down from the sometimes hectic busyness of travel.
Here’s a peek for you of what we experienced at the Lady Buddha:

The Lady Buddha
You might think that the Lady Buddha has been around for centuries, but she’s surprisingly “young”. Construction started in 2006 and the grounds opened to the public in 2010.
Visited by both locals and visitors alike, it’s a popular place for both photo ops, as well as quiet meditation and prayer.
Best of all, it’s FREE to visit! There are donation boxes if you wish to support the work of the monks.

The Pagodas and Structures
Besides the Lady Buddha, the grounds surrounding her also feature many pagodas, mini-temples, gates and other beautiful structures with interesting architecture. If you decide to enter any of the buildings, remove your shoes first.

The Statues
My very favorite part of the Lady Buddha property (and really all of Vietnam) was all the amazing statues, intricately carved out of white marble. At this property, many of them were jovial and funny laughing creatures.

The Gardens
All around the Lady Buddha complex were beautiful gardens with colorful flowers.

The Monkeys
The Lady Buddha is located on the Son Tra Peninsula, also known as Monkey Mountain. And these golden-faced monkeys were EVERYWHERE on the Lady Buddha grounds! We’ve seen monkeys in lots of places in our travels, but I’ve never seen them swim before! We watched them play around for quite awhile.

How to Get to the Lady Buddha
The Lady Buddha complex is about 10-15 minutes from the city of Da Nang. We stayed on the south part of town and our Grab ride took about 20 minutes to get there.
- Take a Grab (ride share) – our ride cost $6 each way and the driver waited for us while we explored (for almost three hours!!)
- Take a motorbike – if you’ve rented a motorbike, take Hoàng Sa Road north east out of Da Nang. Note that when you reach the property, there will be signs directing you to the Motorbike parking lots.
- Take a Guided Tour – The Lady Buddha is included on almost any guided tour you might take of Da Nang area attractions. Some highly rated tours include:

Lady Buddha FAQs
What should I wear to visit Lady Buddha?
The grounds of the Lady Buddha complex are a place of worship for many people so respectable clothing should be worn. And don’t forget comfortable shoes!
Should I park in the first or second parking lot?
Either parking lot gives you access to the property, but the first one requires climbing up a steep set of stairs to reach the Lady Buddha. If you use Grab or take a taxi, have your driver drop you off in the second or upper parking lot, which is a lot closer to the Lady Buddha.
Is the Lady Buddha Worth Visiting?
I would say for sure! Lady Buddha ended up being one of my favorite things to do in Da Nang during our almost two weeks in the City. I found it to be a peaceful respite from the hot and humid heat – lots of shade from the trees, a breeze up off the water, views everywhere you looked, and plenty of benches to sit on while admiring the statues and structures.
Bill and I spent almost 3 hours there on the sunny day we visited! For sure, I recommend adding it to your list of things to do while in Da Nang.
