FAQs About Staying in Vancouver

What area of Vancouver is best to stay in for first-time visitors?

If it’s your first time in Vancouver, staying in downtown Vancouver is your best bet. That’s where you’ll find the most hotels, plus walkable access to top attractions like Stanley Park, Gastown, and Granville Island. Transit is excellent, and most tours offer hotel pick-up if you’re staying central. It’s a little pricier, but the convenience more than makes up for it—especially if you’re not renting a car.

Do I need a car if I’m staying in Vancouver?

Not at all. Vancouver is one of the most walkable cities I’ve ever visited. Downtown is compact, and the SkyTrain connects directly to the airport. Public transit, Uber, and even small ferries make it easy to get around without the hassle of parking. If you’re planning day trips or want to explore beyond the city, you can always rent a car just for those days—or try the Evo car share app, which is super popular with locals.

Besides downtown, where are some other great areas of Vancouver to stay in?

Some hip and trendy neighborhoods to consider would be North Vancouver (lots of our travel friends prefer to stay there), Kitsilano Beach area (easy access to Granville Island and great restaurants near the Beach) or the Yaletown neighborhood.

Note that Airbnbs are highly regulated within the city of Vancouver and there are only a handful of high-rise condo buildings that are still allowed to have Airbnb Rentals.

How many days should I stay in Vancouver?

Give yourself at least three full days, but honestly? As many days as you can afford. In full transparency, Vancouver is an pretty expensive place to visit.

We spent a full week in there and still didn’t hit everything on our list. Between parks, food tours, boat rides, museums, and day trips, it’s easy to fill even a week or two with so many things to do in Vancouver. Whether you’re a planner or a wanderer, there’s plenty to explore.

Conclusion: Is Vancouver Worth Visiting?

Absolutely—and where you stay can make the whole experience even better.

As someone who’s reviewed thousands of properties across the globe, I can confidently say Vancouver offers some of the best stays in North America—whether you’re chasing skyline views, walkable neighborhoods, or cozy suites that stretch your travel dollars.

The hotels in this guide weren’t picked at random. I researched them carefully based on real guest feedback, standout amenities, and overall value. I also made sure every listing has a photo so you know it’s the real deal.

No matter your budget, Vancouver has a place you’ll love calling home. But don’t wait too long—the best rooms often book out months in advance.
